My name is Olivia Jenkinson, I am 17 and currently studying AS Levels in; History, Government and Politics, English Literature and Psychology. I am planning on going to university in September 2016 to study Politics and International Relations.
For as long as i can remember, my interest for politics has been present, however, since i began studying the subject in September 2014, my love has just grown stronger.
Recently, a Green Party has been set up in my constituency of 'Lichfield and Burntwood' and I was one of the individuals who was a part of this. i am glad people in my constituency will finally get the choice to vote Green- even if it is unfortunately a safe seat of the Conservatives! My motive for being a part of this was to help give minority parties more of a platform and give people more of a choice. We need to change the stereotype of British MPs- white, middle-aged men in suits. As i consider myself a feminist, i am particularly in support of more representation of women in parliament, along with young people and ethnic minorities.
However, my underlying support for the Labour Party has come to surface and I am now a member of the Young Labour. In the lead up to the General election, I have become even more informed and prefer Labour's more modest policies when compared to Green.
I am a strong supporter of lowering the voting age to 16, i cannot express my disappointment that i will not be able to vote in May, however, i want to do all i can to influence those who can vote, to vote for Labour.
Favourite Politician: Tony Benn
