My name is Craig Bateman, I am a 17 year old youth voice advocate who is very passionate about empowering young people to influence decisions that are made in their communities. In this portfolio, I have had an active role within StudentVoice as one of its’ Interim National Executive between March and July 2014, and currently serve Model Westminster as one of its National Ambassadors. As a Member of Worcestershire Youth Cabinet for Wyre Forest and its current Vice Chair elect, I am proud to have worked on a number of multi-agency and cross-party projects including developing plans for a Wyre Forest District Youth Council and Young Peoples’ Mayor, whilst championing local issues that are of importance to our young people – the next generation.
Having been involved in some form of youth democracy since the age of 5, I am passionate about youth participation in local democratic services and the NHS, as one of the nations’ invaluable resources; I truly do believe that it should be preserved for future generations to access.
I am currently studying History, Sociology and Philosophy with Ethics at A-Level and took AS Law as a one-year enrichment programme at King Charles I School, a modern co-educational comprehensive school in the beautiful county of Worcestershire.
Even though I have been engaging in political journalism for a few years now, I decided to get involved with Omnipolitical following a short discussion with it’s creator, Harry Goodwin, who I found to be an incredibly passionate advocate of youth political journalism. Inspired by his blogs which focused on the big issues of political narrative, I feel encouraged to continue developing my political journalistic skills. I am absolutely delighted that I have been selected to join the Omnipolitical team, and very much look forward to debating some of the big issues on an international platform.
