My name is Ashvarya Madhani and I am 15 years old. I am very passionate for politics and am currently responsible for youth engagement in my local area, so as to voice the views of young people effectively and represent them.I am hoping to tackle my top 3 manifesto points in my year of office; Votes at 16 and 17 for young people, bringing into play free travel oystercards for 16-18 year olds and increasing levels of community cohesion within my area, including the celebration of religious festivals in my area, by creating more communal events.
When it comes to political views, I support the Labour party and am hoping to become a member of the Young Labour party soon. One of my political idols is former Prime Minister of England Tony Blair, due to his drive to tackle inequality in Britain and to generate greater prosperity, but also because he possesses numerous skills, which make him a commendable politician. His setting up of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation is a significant achievement of his, aiming to unify major world faiths and create mutual understanding between them.
Ed Miliband's future vision for Labour also inspires me greatly; he wishes to make Britain a better and fairer country by achieving unity. One of my favourite political quotes, which I strongly believe in is, “In politics you don’t just have to fight, you have to know whose side you are on” by Ed Miliband.
