I am 17 years old and study government and politics at sixth form in Burntwood, Staffordshire.
I am a democratic socialist, who currently is a supporter of the Greens as I feel they are the best chance of gaining any significant power through the current First Past The Post electoral system in the UK and are most suited to my ideology for a fairer and more equal society. Although I do not think they are perhaps as extreme as they should be. I am pro-democracy, anti-establishment, anti-fascist, anti-racist, and would consider myself to be a liberal feminist.
My political inspirations include Martin Luther King, John F Kennedy, Ghandi, Che Guevera, George Orwell, Joe Strummer, Owen Jones and Rosa Parks.
My favourite politician is the late Tony Benn, who inspired me with his speeches on the abolition of the House of Lords and Britain's involvement in both the Gulf Wars.
Whilst I wouldn't consider myself to be a communist, I believe firmly in a communist utopia where all are equal and there is no poverty, crime, hate, war or disease. However the way human nature has adapted to capitalism means that many would be against this due to their own selfish needs, communism can only work when all involved are fully committed. I want to eventually become an aid worker when I turn 18 and spend the majority of my life helping people less fortunate than myself, I have no interest in becoming a politician but politics affects all of us which is why I get involved. I have no plans on going to university unless I have a change of heart on the aid worker aspiration and decide to attend in a number of years to get a degree in social justice, therefore still fulfilling my dream of helping others.
I want to write articles because I believe myself to be a very opinionated, but also well-informed person and see this as a way to let my voice be heard. My favourite political quote is, 'When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.' Sri Chinmoy.
